Workshop : Urban Wildlife

Gopalan International School, Bengaluru, organized a workshop by Mr. Praveen Chandrashekhar, the esteemed Social Outreach Coordinator at People for Animals (PFA), on the Importance of Wildlife for Grades 4 to 9 and 11 with 3 sessions each on 4th and 8th Dec 2025.

Mr. Chandrashekhar primarily addressed the severe consequences of urban expansion on Bangalore's native wildlife. He detailed how rapid development has not only displaced species but also contributed significantly to the region's current water crises. He provided a clear definition of conservation principles and highlighted the crucial role of the organisation's ongoing rescue missions for distressed animals within city limits.

During the workshop, the speaker highlighted the importance of wildlife, emphasizing how every species—big or small—plays a vital role in maintaining ecological balance. Students were encouraged to understand, appreciate, and protect the diverse forms of wildlife that coexist with us in urban spaces.

Students learned about Urban Wildlife, common myths and superstitions, and the importance of the 4Rs — Rescue, Recovery, Rehab, and Release. They also understood how harmful nylon manja can be for birds.

The presentation included compelling facts and photographic evidence of local wild animals. A central theme was the ethical distinction that these wild creatures are meant to be free and should not be considered substitutes for pets. The session successfully educated the students on their civic responsibility toward Bangalore's increasingly fragile ecosystem.

Objective of the Workshop

Through interactive discussions, students gained awareness about issues like habitat loss, pollution, and the impact of human activities on wildlife. They were encouraged to take small steps to protect animals and to contact the PFA helpline if they come across any animal in need of rescue.

Students thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and gained valuable knowledge about urban wildlife and conservation.
